Pope Benedict XVI's pontificate leave on February 28 next because of his "advanced age".

The decision was taken today by the Pope by surprise during a consistory which held at regular cardinals of the Roman Curia.

"After examining my conscience before God repeatedly, I have the certainty that, for the elderly because I have no strength to adequately perform the Petrine ministry."
